MANCHESTER PREPARES TO WELCOME THE WORLD’S BEST TAEKWONDO ATHLETES FOR INTERNATIONAL SHOWPIECE

On the eve of the 3rd British International Taekwondo Championships, some of the world’s top taekwondo talent is set to grace the city for the event which takes place 25th - 26th September at the National Squash Centre, Manchester. The GB National Team will be hoping to make the most of their home advantage as they challenge both for the prestigious title and valuable qualification points for London 2012. 

The feast of weekend entertainment will feature British Olympic heroes Aaron Cook (Dorchester) and Michael Harvey (Hyde), competing alongside a strong Team GB Elite Academy squad, including recently crowned Youth Olympic Games Champion, Jade Jones (Flint), and SportAccord World Combat Games gold medallist Bianca Walkden (Liverpool). 

Gary Hall, Performance Director – Sport Taekwondo UK, said: “We have several athletes in excellent form at the moment and the progression of the team as a whole is hugely encouraging. We go into this event boasting a World Number One, a European Champion, a Youth Olympic Champion and a SportAccord World Combat Games Champion, so the results so far this year have been very impressive.
