The Caroline Facer Memorial Trophy Winner Announcement

We are delighted to announce that the inaugural winner of ‘The Caroline Facer Memorial Trophy’ is Mollie Schofield.

Mollie 18, is a member at BTS in Southampton and was nominated by her boyfriend, Adam. Her inspiring story showed her hard work, determination and positive attitude in coming back from a series of career-threatening injuries to become the Senior British Champion at this year’s National Championships in Manchester.

BT Board member Sarah Stevenson Jennings MBE visited BTS to surprise Mollie and present her with the award.

We received a large number of nominations following the announcement of the award, and these were shortened down for Caroline’s husband Stuart to decide the winner, who he felt best showed the fight and determination that is fitting of the trophy winner.

“First of all, I would like to mention how fitting it is that this award has been created in memory of my wife Caroline Facer, a truly dedicated and inspiring athlete, wife and mother.
I would now like to congratulate Mollie on winning the Caroline Facer award for 2017, from reading about Mollie and what she has overcome to become British Champion this year is simply breathtaking. It is unbelievable that she can even train let alone win the Senior National Championships.
I hope the award will inspire her and help her to compete at the highest level. Well done Mollie you have earned it.”
Stuart Facer (Caroline’s Husband)

“I would like to thank every single person who took the time to nominate their preferred athlete for this prestigious award. All the nominations were very special, and I enjoyed reading every one outlining the qualities worthy of this award.

I totally agree that Mollie deserves this award and making the trip to her club BTS in Southampton was a real honour. With Mollie’s journey, it’s not just about the injuries and the family hardship, its the fact that she never complains and she has never once wanted to quit when so many others would have done. To have two ACL reconstructions is mentally and physically one of the hardest things to go through, never mind someone so young like Mollie and having both operations back to back. Mollie shows determination, perseverance, hard work and inspiration, and she just doesn’t know what quitting means. She won the 2017 National Championship which to her would have meant the world after such a long time in and out of the sport. We are very proud of Mollie and everything she stands for.
What an outstanding athlete to win for our first year, congratulations Mollie.”

The Caroline Facer Memorial Trophy was introduced by British Taekwondo earlier this year in memory of one of the countries most successful and inspirational players – Caroline Facer. Caroline sadly passed away in May aged 34. The trophy will be presented each year to a member who fits what Caroline stood for, and the recipient will also receive £1000 to go towards competition and travel.
