THE GB WORLD PARA-POOMSAE TEAM IN THEIR OWN WORDS

Bradley Brockies (Yong Gi) P20 Junior Male

My name is Bradley.  I am 13 years old and live in Kent with my Mum, Dad and my cat Charlie.  I am currently in Year 9 at school and getting ready to choose my options.

I have been doing Taekwondo for 5 years and I have been at my current club, Yong Gi Tkd for 4 years. I am a 1st Poom Black belt and I am hoping to take my 2nd Poom soon.

My hobbies apart from Taekwondo include editing photos and all things aviation. I have an Instagram account for my aviation photography (@finndog105), and I love flying. I have had two flying lessons so far and my hope is to become an airline pilot.

Megan Clements (Aquila) P20 U30 Female

My name is Megan Clements and I am 26 years old. I am more independent now; so knowing some self-defence makes me feel safer when I’m travelling on buses and trains alone. I’ve been training with Aquila Taekwondo for only 1 year so far but I am really enjoying it. Because of Taekwondo I’m much more fit, healthy and have made lots of new friends. My coaches; Terry Cooper and Kuzey Akses have been really helping me get ready for the World Championships and I’m so excited to represent Great Britain.

I live at home with my Mum, Dad and younger brother and I am a volunteer coach at Magpie Dance who are a group that teach Dance classes to children with learning disabilities. I enjoy spending time with my family and watching movies with my boyfriend.

Rajinder Chatha (LTA) P20 +31 Male

I was only 22 years old when I first started Taekwondo. I started Taekwondo for Fitness and self-coordination.

I have been training for the past 23 years since 1994 with master Usman Dildar.

L.T.A is my club and my club instructor is master Yousuf Dildar

If it wasn’t for my parents who have let me practice taekwondo and my academy I wouldn’t be 4th Dan Black belt today.
Are used to have a pet dog called Tyson and are used to take him for a long walk in the mornings.
I love Taekwondo and it’s been my hobby and part of my life since I started in 1994 and one day I want to be a nightstand grandmaster and I’m really really excited about my first ever World Championships.

Samantha Carrington (Kang Han) P33 U30 Female

My name is Samantha Jayne Carrington. I am 30 years old and was born with Hemiplegia a form of Cerebral Palsy and Russell Silvers Syndrome. I started Taekwondo at the age of 18 and this was due to my physiotherapy was stopping as I entered adulthood and I was determined not to lose my physical ability and healthy lifestyle that I had worked all my life for. I have been training for the last 12 years and never looked back. I train at Kang Han Mansfield and Kang Han Hucknall. My instructors are Master Darrell Carrington and Grandmaster Ian Lennox. I am a Primary School Teacher and work in the Foundation Stage Unit at Butler’s Hill Infant & Nursery School in Nottingham. I am so excited about competing for Great Britain and especially in our own Country as it makes it even more special and worthwhile. Taekwondo has gained me flexibility and balance and developed my physical ability ten-fold. I love competing in Poomsae and showing others you can do a martial art like Taekwondo even if you have a disability and inspiring the young children I teach!!! I have lived my life believing anything is possible if you put your mind to it. If someone tells me I cannot do something I will do my utmost to prove them wrong and achieve this. (i.e. My parents were told when I was 10 months old I might never walk but they were determined I would and did everything they could to help me achieve this)  I love training hard to develop my technique and skills to become the best I can be. I am also extremely proud to be the Para Team Captain for the GB Squad.
