The 2017 National Championships was briefly suspended this year to pay tribute to one of its most successful players – Caroline Facer. Caroline was a leading figure in British Taekwondo representing GB and winning Silver and Bronze at the European Championships in Rome and Manchester. Caroline was also crowned British Champion 13 times during her career representing Scorpion Taekwondo.
In May this year, Caroline lost her brave battle with Breast Cancer ages just 34.
A moving tribute was paid by Peter Adamsons of Scorpion Taekwondo, who was Caroline’s former coach and a short video was played showcasing Caroline, the Loving Wife, Mother and Taekwondo Athlete.
In Caroline’s honour, this year will see British Taekwondo introduce The Caroline Facer Memorial Trophy. The trophy will be awarded to a nominated British Taekwondo member who fits what Caroline stood for.
‘Caroline was my roommate when we competed as part of the National team for many years, she was just someone who you just loved as soon as you met them’.
‘She was such a hardworking and inspiring person. I don’t think I have met an athlete in my career quite as professional and focused as Caroline. To be able to represent your country a number of times she did and have a full-time job is just unheard of. She has left a huge hole in so many lives and I just hope that this trophy helps to keep her memory to live on for many years’.
Sarah Stevenson Jennings MBE
The nominations will be shortlisted and a winner selected by a panel, which will including members of Caroline’s Family. The winner will be notified and presented with the trophy by Sarah at their club at the end of the year along with a cheque for £1000 to go towards competition and travel.
Please submit your nominations to firstname.lastname@example.org
