Relaunch for British Taekwondo Poomsae

This month has seen the start of the of the new British Taekwondo Poomsae programme as we welcome our new coaches tasked with taking Poomsae within the country forwards on the international stage.

The last fortnight has seen our new coaching team deliver the first Regional Poomsae training sessions in North and South of England as well as up in Scotland where students were provided with information and training on the latest developments in Poomsae in a fun and friendly environment. Our team also delivered the first of this year’s National Open training sessions with all six coaches there to support and help develop our athletes in their specific age groups with the focus on development and performance of their required Poomsae for competition.

Northern Regional Training this month was led by Master David Morrison (5th Dan) and Master Sang Young Park (6th Dan) and hosted by Lion Taekwondo in Hoyland, Barnsley.

Southern Regional Training was led by Head Coach Master Gemma Biescas (7th Dan), Mr Chan Sau (4th Dan) and Mr Chi Li (4th Dan) and hosted by Loughton Taekwondo in Loughton, Essex.

South Regional Session

Scottish Regional Training was led by Grandmaster David Bailey (8th Dan) and hosted by Central Taekwondo in Falkirk.

Scotland Regional

The month long relaunch culminated with a National Open Training session which was hosted by Bluewave Taekwondo in Basingstoke, Hampshire and was held over the same weekend in which the Great Britain Poomsae Team was selected that will represent the country at the European Championships in Greece in May.

Basingstoke Open Session

Overall it has been fantastic to see over 150 participants from over thirty clubs from around the UK, with a mixture of ages from peewee children to our older athletes who continue to be an inspiration to us all still hard at training into their seventies along with a mixture of abilities and experiences from first time attendees to World Championships medallists.

There are many more Regional and National Open sessions planned throughout the UK over the coming weeks and would like to invite all clubs, instructors and students to take part. The sessions will provide an opportunity for participants to further increase their knowledge in Poomsae, train alongside members of the national squad and also offer our coaches a chance to see other talented athletes in action with the potential for call up to the GB Team for future major events.
